SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus gymnastics team won its first home dual meet of the season Friday, defeating Hamline 183.725-180.325 at the Sponberg Gymnastics Studio.

The Gusties scored 47.450 on floor, 46.100 on vault, 46.075 on bars (season-high), and 44.100 on beam.

“Another great week for this team,” Head Coach Aryn DeGrood said. “They continue to push each other and strive to be better. It’s always fun to get a win at home in front of your own fans too. Vault, bars, and floor were all incredible. Bars was a huge season high for us. We had a lot of season and personal bests across the board tonight. Beam left something to be desired tonight and is an area we need to improve on.”

Gustavus claimed first place on all but one event as Sam Ardy (Sr., Thousand Oaks, Calif.) won the vault at 9.425, bars at 9.550, and floor with a 9.600. Her all-around total of 37.375 was good for second place behind Amanda Malo’s (Sr., Greenwood, Minn.) 37.450. Malo took second on the bars at 9.425, second on the floor at 9.575, third on beam at 9.175, and fourth on vault at 9.275.

Brooke Merila (Fy., St. Michael, Minn.) was the third all-around performer for the Gusties with a total of 36.775. Merila’s top performance was on the vault with a 9.300 to place second.

Individually, Malo and Sam had great meets,” DeGrood said. “Our entire floor line up was outstanding. Brooke had a great day and a career high all around. Jamie Erdely was awesome on floor and in exhibition on beam.”

Gustavus wraps up the regular season next Friday at home against UW-La Crosse.
